Throughout 2016, my new website CuratedLife.ca will host an event series called, MASTERCLASS. Each MASTERCLASS will address an area of weakness faced by millennial women entrepreneurs. According to research I’ve read, millennial women entrepreneurs face unique set of challenges due to being both young and women. These challenges include lack of confidence, lack of financial literacy, limited access to capital and difficulty with business planning.
Through my MASTERCLASS series I hope to connect attendees with a community of peers and the resources required to build prosperous businesses. (And like any event I curate, attendees will also enjoy the best refreshments and gift bags I can find).
For the MASTERCLASS, we turned Souvenir Studios into a hub of inspiration. Attendees enjoyed a meal from Sud Forno along with cupcakes from the Bake Shoppe for dessert (#sponsorlove). I gave a quick talk about the importance of setting goals and how to use the S.M.A.R.T. goals acronym. But it was Canadian designer Mary Young who was the star of the night. I still can’t image having a better Master Instructor for the first event. Mary was an awesome keynote. Mary shared her own start-up story and business goals as expected. But she also served as a moderator, providing feedback and advice to attendees as they shared their own goals for the year.
Above this, it was the perfect blend of attendees that really brought my vision for the event to life. It was an intimate event, but there was a diverse group of entrepreneurs. There were those who owned creative businesses, boutiques and even a law practice. Some were in the early start-up phase and some were looking to expand their businesses. Everyone seemed to be able to make good connections and left feeling inspired; including myself. I can’t wait to plan out the next set of events. Special thanks to JT of Customatic Film & Digital for capturing the best moments of the night. See his photos and video below. I hope to see you at our next event in May.
